These following ingredients are hidden in many of your shampoos. Some ingredients are in fact harsh chemicals that can irritate skin, damage follicles, trigger asthma, and may even be known carcinogens. You can't help but wonder, "How can that be healthy for you and your families hair?"
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) & Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES): These closely related compounds are found in car wash soaps, garage floor cleaners and engine degreasers. Yet both SLS and SLES are used in about 90% of all shampoos and products that foam. SLS and SLES have been found to cause skin damage, diarrhea, labored breathing, and eye irritation.
Polyethylene Glycol (PEG): This is a particularly scary solvent that is also used in antifreeze. Not only does PEG strip out oils, wax, and silicone, but it has the potential to cause skin irritation and hair follicle damage.
Sodium Chloride: This ingredient is used as a thickener in products containing SLS, but it can cause dry, itchy scalp and encourage hair loss.
Methylisothiazolinone (MIT): MIT commonly used in shampoos to prevent bacterial growth. MIT is a known neurotoxin that has been shown to cause damage to brain cells in animal and in-vitro studies.
